Enhancing Sports Therapy for Sound and Balanced Horses
Orange Clover
Farms’ Equine Therapy and Training Center is the first of its
kind in Southwest Florida. Progressive horse owners and
Veterinarians alike are advocating non-invasive and holistic
options to supplement their horses’ regular maintenance program
and veterinary care. We follow this holistic approach in the care
of our own horses and those of our clients, since we believe that
it takes a team of caring and qualified people to care for an
equine athlete.
We offer a place
for sport horses to recover from injuries or surgeries and to
receive further training and conditioning, or sometimes just a “time
out”; a time to relax and initiate the let down and healing
process. This is another aspect of the holistic approach: to
employ a variety of conventional and alternative therapeutic
modalities to support the self-healing power of the body.
Equine patients
will have to get diagnosed and referred to us by their
Veterinarian. As per their prescription, they will receive a
variety of rehabilitative therapies and treatments in our full
service boarding facility or through our mobile equine sports
therapy unit. All sports therapies and chiropractic treatments are
administered by a certified Equine Therapists under veterinary
supervision. Some treatments, such as acupuncture and chiropractic
treatments, are only performed by a licensed Veterinarian.

None of these
therapies stand by it self. Horse owners need to have a proper
diagnosis of the problem from their licensed Veterinarian. It is
very important to evaluate the work of the farrier. One needs to
consider the balance of the feet, the balance of the posture, the
balance of the rider. Dental problems, the balance of the mouth,
can be a HUGE factor in the overall performance and movement of
the horse. Saddle fit, training and riding techniques are all
important considerations. Sometimes the horse needs intelligent
adjustment of misaligned joints for the treatment to be complete.
You will be truly
amazed at how through a combination of these factors, not only
pains can resolve and actual healing can take place, but how your
horse’s general health will improve.
